Tax Returns on USB Drive: Seem Like A Bad Idea to Anybody Else?

Forgive me for going a bit off topic here, but I thought this may be of interest, at least conversationally.

This afternoon I was in one of those gargantuan office supply stores to pick up more drives for the project (I'm up to about 8 prototype volunteers, which is nice.) As I walked past the tax software aisle, I noticed a version of TaxCut available, for ten dollars extra, on a re-usable USB drive.

In my opinion, this is an interesting but not very well thought out use of the technology. Perhaps, if the drive was not boldly emblazoned with the product logo, my impression would have been different. But the idea of carrying around very sensitive financial information on a device that is pretty much marked "very sensitive financial information, please steal me" seems like asking for trouble.

Then again, somebody playing devil's advocate could argue that this is not much different than carrying your medical information around on such a drive. Afterall, many of the commercially available medical usb drives are marked with a red cross or other similarly identifying logo. However, I'd have to counter that argument with the counterpoint that having a copy of one's 1040EZ is not likely to be lifesaving. Also, someone with malicious intent is probably going to do a lot less damage with the fact that you are asthmatic than they are with your social security number and names of your banking institutions. Any thoughts?

(Never mind the fact that it was a 256MB drive, at a ten dollar premium, when you should be getting at least twice that memory for the price...)
